Scientific Conference “Such a Different World of Mineralogy” (dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Academician Ie.K. Lazarenko)

On 19-20 April 2012, a conference "Such a Different World of Mineralogy" dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Academician Ie.K. Lazarenko was held at the initiative of scientists of the Geological Museum of the National Scientific Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The event was also joined by the Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS of Ukraine, Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv Branch of Ukrainian Mineralogical Society, State Gemological Center of Ukraine, Faculty of Geology at the Taras Shevchenko National University, Institute of Fundamental Geosciences Ukraine, Geomandry, State Enterprise "Museum of Precious and Decorative Stones". The conference was attended by teachers, manufacturers, scientists from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Moscow and other cities.

In March, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists welcomed the President of AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists), Dr. Paul Weimer. This was the visit of the third president of the association since the conclusion of the cooperation agreement between UAG and AAPG. Previously, Ukraine has been visited by two previous presidents of the association - Robbie Gris (twice) and Peter Rose. The schedule of Paul Weimer's lecture tour seemed rather tight: Moscow - Kyiv - Bucharest - Budapest - Vienna - Leoben - Brno - Prague - Warsaw. A series of four lectures was presented at the Faculty of Geology at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv at the kind invitation of the faculty and board of the UAG with the sponsorship of Nadra Group. The event was covered by Noosphere cable TV channel and the polit.ua media portal.
