Educational programmes

Since its foundation, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists implements educational projects and participates in similar projects of its partners. The Association carries out educational activities in two main areas: Training and professional development and Educational programs for young people.

Training courses are carried out in the following areas: HSE, Economics, Law, Geology, Geophysics, Logging, Drilling, Bore wells development, Extraction, Professional English.

Starting 2009, UAG has been successfully implementing the program ‘Professional development of specialists of oil and gas industry of Ukraine for international cooperation and work in Western companies’. The program is carried out thanks to the constant sponsorship of the NADRA GROUP, as well as under support of Shell, Halliburton, Regal Petroleum, Discovery Drilling Equipment, Ukrainian specialized institutions, organizations, public and private companies, international public organizations: AAPG, EAGE, SEG.

Since 2012, the scope of activities and the list of participants have been expanding due to launch of The Program on Employment and Adaptation to the Market Economy of Exploration Industry Specialists in order to Preserve the Human and Intellectual Potential of Ukrainian Geology. The program was initiated by the Ukrainian Association of Geologists supported by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The initiative contributes to the training of Ukrainian geologists according to the requirements of employers. Thanks its implementation, companies that need experts in geological specialties are constantly monitored.

In order to attract advanced technologies to Ukraine, in accordance to UAG program Technological days for Ukrainian production and mining companies, specifically, ‘The Day of the Latest Exploration and Production Technologies’ in 2013 and ‘Integrated Services in Cased Wells’ in 2016 were held.

Since 2017, training programs on project management and MS Project products (13 programs in total) are carried, with preparation for passing the IPMA exam (IPMA – International Project Management Association).

An important area of educational work of the Association under the Tutkovsky Institute program is the organization of scientific conferences. A total of 80 conferences were held with a wide range of scientific topics, covering the problems of lithology and stratigraphy of sedimentary basins, problems of ore and oil and gas, including unconventional hydrocarbons, ore-bearing Precambrian and Phanerozoic, environmental problems and preservation of geological heritage, demonstration of new technology on geological and geophysical research and production of energy and mineral resources, and the like.

The Association considers one of its main tasks to perform education in respect to the environment, dissemination of geological knowledge and raising the prestige of professions related to the study and use of the geological environment. Therefore, since 2001, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists has begun to revive the country's children and youth geological movement. Educational activities for young people are carried out through school geological and environmental education, organization and support of clubs and schools, printing of popular science literature aimed at teenage audiences.

According to the program of training and retraining of personnel of Ukrainian research, service and mining enterprises ‘Professional Development of Specialists of Oil and Gas Industry of Ukraine for International Cooperation and Work in Western companies’, 30 lectures and seminars were held with the involvement of world oil and gas companies (Shell, Marathon, Vanko) and international sectoral public organizations (AAPG, SEG, EAGE).

The Institute conducted 36 two-week professional training courses in the field of effective and balanced use of natural resources. 454 students received state diplomas. Thanks to the educational programs of the Institute, 2000 students from more than 100 companies, institutions and organizations deepened their professional knowledge. 424 people took part in scientific conferences organized by the Institute.

On the basis of the Tutkovsky Institute, a training program ‘Professional Development and Consulting on Project Management in the Field of Natural Resources’ was launched. Specialized training courses ‘Geophysical Researches of Wells by the Use of Modern Technologies’ were conducted in the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute (Kharkiv, 2017-2018).

Leading Ukrainian and foreign specialists are involved in the educational process. Among them are lecturers from the Ukrainian Association of Geologists, AAPG, SEG, EAGE, and other partners. In addition to lecturers from the above-mentioned international specialized public organizations, specialists in the study and use of a wide range of natural resources through the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) are invited. The events are organized on the basis of the Tutkovsky Institute, as well as scientific institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, other institutions and organizations, service and mining companies.
