On 19-22 May 2008 Simferopol hosted a regular meeting of Ukrainian paleontologists and their colleagues from foreign countries, which was organized by the Ukrainian Paleontological Society of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where the main personnel of the paleontologists of Ukraine is concentrated, and the Vernadsky Taurida National University.

The state of the study of various types of mineralization in the ocean, the results of determining the chemical and mineral composition and nature of the distribution of potential ocean ores, ways to solve technological problems of extracting useful components therefrom, environmental risks of developing new types of ores, legal issues of the development of oceanic ores, this is an incomplete list of topics discussed at the international congress Shaping the Future Deep-Sea Minerals and Mining (DSMM), which took place in March 2008 in Aachen (Germany).
