International Cooperation

The Ukrainian Association of Geologists, according to its Statute, may establish and join other public associations, including international associations, or conclude agreements on cooperation and mutual assistance, to maintain direct international contacts and relations as well as to participate in the implementation of activities that do not contradict Ukraine’s international liabilities.

In order to expand professional contacts, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists became a member of a number of influential international public geological organizations such as the AAPG, the EAGE, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the EFG and other leading professional organizations.

Association representatives participated in the EAGE conferences like the 63rd (Amsterdam, Netherlands), 66th (Paris, France), 67th (Madrid, Spain), 68th (Vienna, Austria), 69th (London, UK), 70th (Rome, Italy), 71st (Amsterdam, Netherlands), 72nd (Barcelona, Spain), 73rd (Vienna, Austria) and 74th (Copenhagen, Denmark). Within the framework of the 68th Paris EAGE Conference, representatives of the association participated in business meetings on infrastructure development and expansion of the range of EAGE services and its grant policy.

Ukrainian geologists were also participants in the annual conferences of the AAPG (Denver, Colorado, USA), AAPG regional conferences in the city of Prague (Czech Republic, October 2004) and Athens (Greece, November 2007). In November 2005, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists hosted the AAPG President Dr. Peter Rose and the AAPG President for the European Region Dr. John Brooks. The most large-scale event for the geology of Ukraine and the entire region in the recent period was the Regional Conference of the AAPG ‘Exploration and Prospecting Works for Oil and Gas in the Black Sea-Caspian Region: Current Research and Future Plans’ (Kyiv, October 2010).

The conference was attended by 502 delegates from 212 organizations and companies from 28 countries.

In May 2014, delegates of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists took part in the seminar of the EFG ‘Geologists of Europe in the Third Millennium’ (Palermo, Italy).

Experts of the association took part in the development for the European Commission by the Geological Society of London together with the EFG on and informative and explanatory document Geology For Society on the role and importance of geological science and practice for the solution of global problems that humanity is facing in the 21st century.

In 2015, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists, as a full member of the EFG, joined the implementation of projects commissioned by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.

The association signed cooperation agreements with public organizations of Mongolia, Bulgaria, Poland, Russia, Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan Society of Petroleum Geologists – FSPG) and Kazakhstan (Society of Petroleum Geologists of Kazakhstan – ONGK).

November 2–3, 2016 A seminar on the INTRAW project for national experts titled ‘Natural Resources Management Practices in Europe and Africa’ was held.
October 14, 2016 Seminar on the project UNEXMIN for national experts was hosted by the EFG and Expert Council of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists on behalf of the consortium UNEXMIN and IGFM, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.  
October 12, 2016 Seminar on the project CHPM2030 for national experts was hosted by the EFG and Expert Council of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists on behalf of the consortium CHPM2030 and IGFM, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

October 28, 2015 A lecture by Ray Leonardo (AAPG) at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was held under the title ‘The Changing World of Natural Gas Forecast of Industry Development till 2030’ was hosted by the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Tutkovsky Institute, Ukrainian Association of Geologists and SE Naukanaftogaz.  
May 29–30, 2014 Seminar ‘Geologists of Europe in the Third Millennium’ (Palermo, Italy; EFG). The Ukrainian Association of Geologists signed an agreement with the EFG (Palermo, Italy). Bezvynnyi reported on the same.
November 29, 2013 The Ukrainian Association of Geologists is approved to the EFG.  
January 31, 2013 An agreement on cooperation was signed between the Mongolia Geological Society and the Ukrainian Association of Geologists (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia).
February 15, 2012 Opening of the Polish club in the Tutkovsky Institute. The ceremonial events were attended by the representatives of the Department of Education of Obolon district of Kyiv city, students of the capital universities, students of the Kyiv city and Nadra Group employees. The club operates through the joint efforts of the Tutkovsky Institute and the project ‘Education Without Borders’. The main activity of the club is the functioning of the Polish language courses.
November 8–9, 2012 The regional conference and exhibition APPEX 2012 were organized by the AAPG European region on the topic ‘At the Intersection of Eastern and Ukrainian Association of Geologists performed as a partner in the organization of this conference, and NADRA Group became its sponsor.  
June 4–7, 2012 The 74th conference of the EAGE in the field of earth sciences was held in the capital of Denmark.  
March, 2012 The Ukrainian Association of Geologists hosted AAPG representatives – President of AAPG Paul Weimer, professor and chairman of the Bruce Benson Foundation at the University of Colorado, Director of the Center for Applied Studies for Energy and Minerals paid an official visit to Kyiv.
October 1–11, 2011 Third symposium on the Geology of the Black Sea region (Romania, Bucuresti).  
May 23–26, 2011 73rd annual EAGE conference in Vienna titled ‘Unconventional Resources and the Role of New Technologies’.

November 13–15, 2005 The Ukrainian Association of Geologists hosted AAPG representatives – Dr. Peter Rose, President of the AAPG, and Dr. John Brooks, AAPG President of the European region – on their official visit to Kyiv. Dr. Rose gave a lecture titled ‘Reducing the Risk of Oil and Gas Producing Works Through the Introduction of Systematic Risk Analysis (on the Example of the Experience of International Corporations in the 1900s)’ for 120 employees of the oil and gas industry of Ukraine and met with students of the Geological Faculty of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University of Kyiv.  
June 13–16, 2005 67th EAGE conference and exhibition. The Ukrainian Association of Geologists took part in the exhibition in Madrid.  
August 20–28, 2004 32nd International Geological Congress on New Horizons was held in Florence, Italy.  
June 7–10, 2004 66th EAGE conference and exhibition. The Ukrainian Association of Geologists took part in the exhibition in Paris.  
2001 Integration into the world geological community is the one of the main priorities of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists. For the first time, among the CIS countries, an AAPG presentation was held. AAPG сhairman Roberta Gris visited Ukraine at the invitation of the сhairman of the UAG P.O. Zagorodnuyk.
2001 At the annual conference in Amsterdam (Netherlands), the EAGE approved the membership of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists.
