Ukraine has significant potential for the development of geothermal energy.


As a partner of GSEU, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists within the framework of the tasks of Work Package 8 disseminates information regarding some published news and scientific articles in Ukraine on the main thematic areas of the project.

Ukraine has significant potential for the development of geothermal energy. This is due to favorable geological and geomorphological conditions, as well as the presence of promising geothermal resources. According to geological and structural features, the most promising objects for the development of geothermal sources in Ukraine are the Transcarpathian and Precarpathian depressions, the Dobruzhyn depression and the Dnieper-Donets basin. The prospects of using phase-change materials for thermal energy storage have been determined. Modeling and experimental studies have been carried out to confirm these materials' high energy capacity. The possibility of using porous media to design and create thermal storages is substantiated.
