Ukraine and the EU's Shared Concerns about Europe's Energy Security: The Second Kyiv Security Forum

The Ukrainian Association of Geologists participated in the Second Kyiv Security Forum, held in Kyiv on November 6-7, 2008. The event was organized by the Open Ukraine Foundation under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.


The forum name “THE BLACK SEA AND THE CASPIAN REGION AND EUROPEAN ENERGY SECURITY” was successfully chosen. Thus, the relevance of such a meeting is indisputable and of utmost importance. Moreover, the forum focused on the issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of energy security of the Black Sea and Caspian region and European Union countries. The participants (about 300 people) included high-level officials, well-known analysts, business and media representatives from Ukraine, Poland, the USA, the Baltic, Scandinavian and Caucasian countries, France, Great Britain, Germany, Turkey. Naturally, most of the participants were from Ukraine. Surprisingly, the previously stated representatives of Russia were completely absent. A large number of speakers and listeners represented a wide variety of international and regional governmental organizations and foundations.
