Scientific Conference “Such a Different World of Mineralogy” (dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Academician Ie.K. Lazarenko)

On 19-20 April 2012, a conference "Such a Different World of Mineralogy" dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Academician Ie.K. Lazarenko was held at the initiative of scientists of the Geological Museum of the National Scientific Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The event was also joined by the Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS of Ukraine, Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv Branch of Ukrainian Mineralogical Society, State Gemological Center of Ukraine, Faculty of Geology at the Taras Shevchenko National University, Institute of Fundamental Geosciences Ukraine, Geomandry, State Enterprise "Museum of Precious and Decorative Stones". The conference was attended by teachers, manufacturers, scientists from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Moscow and other cities.

All the speakers unanimously noted that Yevhen Kostiantynovych Lazarenko was and still is a great personality. He happily combined in his person the past of a major organizer of education (rector of the Lviv University named after Ivan Franko ) and science (director of the Geological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and head of the department of regional and genetic mineralogy of the Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR) with pedagogical talent (Professor and Head of the Department of Lviv State University, his textbooks on mineralogy have been translated into many languages and remain the reference books of all students and mineralogists).

The scientific and practical conference ended with excursions to the Museum of Precious and Decorative Stones (Volodarsk-Volynskyi), to the pegmatite quarry and to the Kornynsky granite deposit (Kornyn village, Popelnyanskyi district of Zhytomyr region).

Therefore, the scientific conference "Such a Different World of Mineralogy" held to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Academician Ie.K. Lazarenko testified that the activity of the Great Rector's School is ongoing in Ukraine and its students continue mineralogical research with dignity.
