Routes of Academician P.A. Tutkovsky

The International Conference “Modern Problems of Natural Sciences” dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the birth of Academician Pavlo Apollonovych Tutkovsky was held on 15-17 May 2013.


Conference organizers included: the National Museum of Natural Sciences of NAS of Ukraine, Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS of Ukraine, Ukrainian Geological Company, State Gemological Center of Ukraine, Institute of Basic Research of Ukrainian Scientific Association, Ukrainian Association of Geologists, Vodospad LLC, Geomandry Geological Company.

The plenary session, which took place on May 15 at the premises of the National Museum of Natural History of NAS of Ukraine, featured 30 reports on the following topics: museum studies, popularization of science, bibliography; paleontology and stratigraphy; quaternary deposits; mineralogy and regional geology; geological tourism; geomorphology, landscape science, soil science; hydrogeology.

During the geological excursion "Routes of Academician P.A. Tutkovsky", the participants of the conference got acquainted with the structure, stratigraphy, geomorphology of the Korosten pluton; saw the Lower Proterozoic formations of the Uzh River tract and the formation of the Poplar series in the Bilokorovytskyi Quarry; visited the geological reserve of national importance - the tract Kaminne Village; got acquainted with the quarry near Krasylivka and Lystvyn; visited the flowering area of the relict plant rhododendron. A picturesque river Noryn, the left tributary of Uzh, originates near Lystvyn within the boundaries of the Slavechansk-Ovruch Ridge and flows through the territory of Ovruch, Naroditskyi districts of Zhytomyr region.

Almost 100 years ago, Pavel Tutkovsky worked on these routes. Geological excursions were conducted professionally by Professor of the Department of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Petrography, Faculty of Geology of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Doctor of Geological Sciences, Oleksander Mytrokhin.
