Post-release of the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Assessment, Production and Use of Unconventional Types of Gas: Attracting Investments”

On 02-03 October 2013, Donetsk hosted the Third International Scientific and Practical Conference "Evaluation, Production, and Use of Unconventional Types of Gas: Attracting Investments", held within the framework of the exhibition "Nadra. Minerals - 2013".


The conference was attended by over 80 participants from 40 organizations.

The conference was supported by the relevant national ministries and departments: the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the State Service of Geology and Mines of Ukraine, Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC, Ukrainian State Research and Design Institute of Mining Geology, Geomechanics and Surveying and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering. A.M. Podgornyi National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Donetskgeology, Shell Ukraine Exploration and Production I LLC, Discovery Drilling Equipment (Ukraine) with the effective support of Expodonbass LLC and Donetskstal PJSC - Metallurgical Plant and with the assistance of the Ministers of Ukraine and Donetsk Regional State Administration.

The conference was organized by the forces of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists, the Tutkovsky Institute, a publishing authority The Geologist of Ukraine magazine, with the financial support of NADRA Group.

It is known that Ukraine is among the ten coal countries of the world by the potential of coal-methane gas. The leaders of our coal industry in the effective development of coal fields are a mine named after O.F. Zasyadko, mines 'Pokrovske', 'Donbas', 'Donbas Komsomolets' and others.

The conference confirmed the high relevance of the problems raised in the study and attraction of non-traditional energy sources to Ukraine's fuel and energy balance. The conference featured more than 20 speeches. The event involved an excursion to Pokrovske in order to get acquainted with innovative technologies of drilling, production and efficient utilization of mine methane.

The speech on the problem solving of unconventional hydrocarbons in Ukraine delivered by Mr. Neuhaus Dietmar, Executive Director of Shell projects in the Dnieper-Donetsk Basin, generated interest of the participants. Each of the participants of the conference received The"Geologist of Ukraine" (# 3, 2013), which contained 30 reports on the topic of the event. The final stage of the conference featured an open discussion on the issues raised and made the decision, which was sent to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine as recommendations for their implementation.
