Before that, geological congresses were held in Scandinavia as far back as 1910 in Stockholm, and later in 1960 in Copenhagen. During the 8 days of its work, a total of 5925 speakers and 310 accompanying persons (6,250 participants) from 113 countries attended the congress. The total number of scientific reports that showed the latest data, ideas and achievements in all disciplines of Earth science was 6300 (4100 oral and 2200 stand reports). Geological congresses are a kind of "Olympic competitions" of geologists, which are held every four years and provide the opportunity for interdisciplinary communication. This congress featured 350 thematic scientific symposia, 20 workshops and advanced training courses, 96 organizational and working meetings of international geological organizations, committees, projects, etc.
About 30 Ukrainians attended the congress, one-third of them delivered their reports.
