International Conference “Titanium Ore Base in the CIS” - 2009

On 12 November 2009, the Titan Interstate Association held a conference titled "Titanium Ore Base in the CIS" -2009 (Moscow), which was attended by more than 100 experts specializing in the geology and exploration of titanium ores, enrichment and processing, development of technology in this field, representatives of leading companies involved in the development of deposits and enrichment of titanium ores. Representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists were among the participants of the conference.


The conference presented a wide range of presentations covering the major problems of the development of new deposits, technologies for the integrated use of titanium raw materials, the production of new titanium products, as well as the issues of geological and economic evaluation of titanium deposits and the construction of their geological and genetic models and others.

The report delivered by prof. L. S. Galetskyi, which was prepared with co-authors (S.G. Gryshchenko, Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, O.O. Remezov, Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS of Ukraine) has noted that Ukraine possesses a powerful mineral and resource base of titanium.

It is found 40 deposits, including 2 unique, 12 large and 10 medium; 12 deposits have been thoroughly explored and transferred to industry, 8 are being developed. As of 01.01.2008, 23 fields were taken into account by the state balance, 6 of which are being prepared for development. Titanium reserves in Ukraine make up 40.2% of all CIS countries.
