GC is the longest-running meeting for Earth scientists across the world. Beginning in 1878 and held every four years, IGC is the flagship event for the International Union of Geological Sciences.

The Geological Society, British Geological Survey, and Scottish Geology Trust partnered to bid to host the 38th IGC in Glasgow in 2028. The vote for the host city took place at the 37th IGC in Busan, South Korea, during the final week of August. There were three worthy bids from the UK, Australia, and Canada, with Canada ultimately winning the vote. We would like to extend our congratulations to the Canadian bid team and wish them all the best for the 38th IGC.
