The event will focus on highlighting the crucial role that geologists play in addressing climate change issues.


Geoscientists play a crucial role in addressing climate change and promoting sustainability through their interdisciplinary approach to understanding the Earth’s systems.

The conference will provide an opportunity to emphasize the indispensable role of geologists in accelerating efforts to combat climate change. The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and the Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI) will present research aimed at aiding the development and management of sustainable development.

The Conference will touch on the following topics:

  • The EU Taxonomy Environmental Sustainability Classification system
  • EU Mineral Requirements
  • Mine Rehabilitation

  • Environmental Licensing reform

The conference will feature presentations on topics related to climate change, climate risks, proposed changes to environmental protection legislation, risks and opportunities of environmental insurance, directions for the energy transition, assessing hydrogen storage potential within manmade salt caverns, mine closure challenges and opportunities, the Critical Raw Materials Act, and more.
