Ukrainian Association of Geologists and HEI “Tutkovsky Institute” at the 10-th International Ecological Forum “Environment for Ukraine"
April 23-25 in the International Exhibition Centre in Kyiv the 10th Anniversary International Ecological Forum “Environment for Ukraine” was held.
Ukrainian Association of Geologists (UAG) widely participated in the exhibition, which was held as part of this forum, UAG shared the exhibition stand with its members: NADRA Group the financial and information sponsor and HEI "Tutkovsky Institute" the UAG’s partner in educational and social projects.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Oleg Proskuryakov attended the UAG exhibition stand. As a geologist Mr Proskuryakov genuinely takes up the problems of geology, especially provision of opportunities and conditions for young people interested in geology. The Minister noted with great satisfaction that the measures implemented by UAG and Tutkovsky Institute are extremely important: trainings of Ukrainian schools teams to participate in national and international geological competitions, arrangement of geological programs at Kiev and Ukrainian schools by Tutkovsky Institute.
These educational programs beside the development of general knowledge on geology, aimed at educating the younger generation’s thoughtful attitude to the environment, environmental consciousness, promoted by our ingenious countryman - the first president of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vladimir I. Vernadskiy.
The other activity of UAG and Tutkovsky Institute is the promotion of environmental friendly technologies in mining, recultivation and rehabilitation of territories, environmental monitoring.
Nowadays, while implementing the Ukrainian energy sector strategy towards minimization of imported energy dependency, the transition to development of hard developed and alternative fuels, the country gets in the way of attraction of investments of global companies such as Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron and others.
These companies bring "high-end" technologies to Ukraine, the main criteria of which labor safety and the environmental safety. For example, Shells’ activity meets the requirements of the protection of air quality and control of atmospheric emissions, protection of a groundwater and minimization of potable water use during their operations.
In this sense, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists in cooperation with the Tutkovsky Institute share the experience of international energy companies to preserve the environment by organizing courses and workshops involving lecturers and leading experts of these companies for the professional development of local specialists and further employment in companies to work together with international operators in hydrocarbon production in Ukraine.
Planning its work, the public organization and institute will join their efforts more effectively to create the foundations of sustainable development of our country through the introduction of modern scientific attitude to the environment and education of this tolerant attitude of the young generation.
